But if Christians appreciated that their theology would have to be absurd to stand for cosmic reality, they wouldn't be so pushy in caring whether others shared their religious views. They wouldn't proselytize. If we deem an artwork precious, we'd recommend that others see or hear it, but we wouldn't think they'd be tortured forever if they never encountered this work of art. That urgency is itself absurd, but I'd expect more humility from those who understand that adequate art must capture reality's wild absurdity, and thus shouldn't be taken so literally or even religiously.
