Black holes work with nature in that they hold together galaxies. But they're also almost metaphysically opposed to nature because of the event horizon, which sets up an asymmetry that will be rectified or overcome only when what we call the natural order has long passed away, when black holes themselves may pop and release all their pent-up contents.

Viruses, too, may have a, evolutionary role, but in many cases they're still opposed to the host's interests. Viruses and black holes are present because nature's creative process is mindless. The result is a series of absurd accidents that eventually congeal into the natural order, after untold ages of faffing about, as the British say.
