As I explain in response to other comments here, I do indeed beg the question here about religion and capitalism, but only because I'm using them as examples to test the scientific status of psychiatry, in dealing with the counterfactual scenario in which psychiatrists are met with what seem clearly like crazy social norms. The point isn't that I've established that religion and capitalism are crazy. Rather, the point is that psychiatrists handle social norms by falling back on a philosophy and a culture that handle questions of value.
