Arguing against humanism on the grounds that human progress is foolish and self-destructive is one thing. I've critiqued humanism too.
But my point here isn't so much to defend humanism, as to show that Trumpism conflicts with humanism, given that humanists generally take themselves to be in an implicit war with nature. Sure, we want to sustain our progress, but what developing and developed countries mean by "progress" is a humanization of the wilderness. Civilization is at war with nature's impersonality and indifference. Nature is indifferent towards life, whereas living things are self-interested (ironically, nature made us that way). On top of that, humanists are human-centered.
Once that's established, we can evaluate the wisdom, the tragic heroism, or the foolishness and insanity of humanism, but that would be another issue.
