Another factor I didn't get into is competition from the internet specifically with the telecom sector. Maybe the telecom companies know they're dinosaurs so they're asleep at the switch. I suppose the question then would be whether the big tech monopolies themselves (Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, etc) are evil geniuses or blundering fools.
